Malo gradova je izgra\u0111eno za sve ekstremnije uslove toplote koje izazivaju klimatske promene. Arhitekte i urbanisti su pod sve ve\u0107im pritiskom da kreiraju zgrade, javne prostore i druge urbane okoline koje mogu \u0161tititi ljude tokom ekstremnih temperatura. Pasivni dizajn, vodene karakteristike, senka i zelenilo, i tehnologija za analizu mikroklimata su alati koje dizajneri mogu koristiti da pripreme gradove za sve topliju budu\u0107nost. Klimatske promene podsti\u010du ekstremne vremenske uslove \u0161irom sveta. Tokom poslednjeg meseca, do\u0161lo je do katastrofalnih poplava u Vermontu i Ju\u017enoj Koreji, besnih \u0161umskih po\u017eara \u0161irom Kanade (u zemlji trenutno ima 881 aktivan po\u017ear), i masovnih talasa vru\u0107ine koji poga\u0111aju zapadne i jugozapadne Sjedinjene Ameri\u010dke Dr\u017eave, kao i delove Evrope. Neizbe\u017eno, ekstremna toplota i porast temperatura postali su zastra\u0161uju\u0107a stvarnost. 2022. godine izve\u0161tavalo se o toploti toliko ekstremnoj da je razbila 7.000 rekorda \u0161irom Sjedinjenih Ameri\u010dkih Dr\u017eava, a talasi vru\u0107ine u Evropi su izazvali \u0161irom sveta su\u0161u i vi\u0161e od 61.000 smrtnih slu\u010dajeva.<\/p><p>Va\u017ean aspekt koji nedostaje u ovim izve\u0161tajima, me\u0111utim, jeste da svetski gradovi dodatno pogor\u0161avaju problem. Gradovi su izgra\u0111eni sa elementima &#8211; od materijala koji apsorbuju toplotu do manjka drve\u0107a za senku i zelenilo &#8211; \u0161to ih \u010dini mnogo toplijim od okolnih ruralnih podru\u010dja, rezultiraju\u0107i onim \u0161to meteorolozi nazivaju &#8220;efektom urbanih toplotnih ostrva&#8221;. Sve ovo su savr\u0161eni sastojci za stvaranje urbanih toplotnih ostrva.<\/p><p>To je zato \u0161to tokom dana tamne povr\u0161ine poput asfalta deluju kao &#8220;sun\u0111eri za toplotu&#8221;, apsorbuju\u0107i mnogo vi\u0161e solarne radijacije od svetlijih povr\u0161ina, dok visoke zgrade blokiraju vetar i pru\u017eaju vi\u0161e prilika za refleksiju sun\u010deve svetlosti. No\u0107u, sva ova akumulirana toplota polako se osloba\u0111a u vazduh, dodaju\u0107i se dodatnom otpadnom toplotom od hiljada klima ure\u0111aja koje stanovnici grada koriste kako bi se za\u0161titili od vru\u0107ine.<\/p><p>&#8220;Sve to zna\u010di da se na\u0161i gradovi zapravo ne hlade no\u0107u koliko bi trebalo&#8221;, ka\u017ee dr. Ariane Middel, docent na Univerzitetu u Arizoni (ASU). Godinama istra\u017euje i simulira urbano zagrevanje kao deo svoje grupe za istra\u017eivanje klime pod nazivom The SHaDe Lab. Ve\u0107ina njenog rada trenutno se bazira u Feniksu &#8211; gradu koji bi uskoro mogao postati neprikladan za \u017eivot zbog klimatskih promena pogor\u0161anih efektom urbanih toplotnih ostrva.<\/p><p>&#8220;Ovo je problem o kojem su ljudi u gradskim vlastima postali sve svesniji&#8221;, ka\u017ee David Hondula, docent na ASU i direktor Kancelarije za odgovor na toplotu i ubla\u017eavanje u gradu Feniksu &#8211; prvog javno finansiranog kabineta te vrste u Sjedinjenim Ameri\u010dkim Dr\u017eavama. &#8220;Ono \u0161to nije bilo jasno jeste ko je odgovoran za suo\u010davanje s izazovima u na\u0161im gradovima vezanim za toplotu.&#8221;<\/p><p>Sa svojim timom, Hondula je posebno zadu\u017een za borbu protiv ekstremne toplote u gradu pre nego \u0161to bude kasno. To zna\u010di da \u0107e, kako klimatske promene stvaraju sve ekstremnije toplotne talase, mnoge vi\u0161e zajednice biti u opasnosti.<\/p><p>Dobra vest je da se gradovi suo\u010davaju s izazovom pronala\u017eenja interdisciplinarnih re\u0161enja.<\/p><p>Septembar 2022. godine ozna\u010dio je prvo okupljanje glavnih gradskih slu\u017ebenika za toplotu iz gradova \u0161irom sveta, koje je organizovao Adrienne Arsht-Rockefeller Foundation Resilience Center Atlantskog saveta, koji je predvodio globalni savez za otpornost na ekstremnu toplotu. Na doga\u0111aju je grupa politi\u010dkih donosilaca odluka delila izazove prilago\u0111avanja surovim stvarnostima klimatskih promena; doga\u0111aj je obele\u017eio objavljivanje izve\u0161taja neprofitne organizacije pod nazivom &#8220;Vru\u0107i gradovi, hladne ekonomije: Uticaj ekstremne toplote na globalne gradove&#8221;, koji istra\u017euje uticaj globalnog zagrevanja u 12 glavnih urbanih podru\u010dja.
